No scrubs? Time to whip up a DIY sugar scrub!

Scrub away those winter blues (and save yourself a few bucks in the process) with these ridiculously easy recipes for homemade sugar scrubs. Pop them in an airtight container or sterilised jar and keep in the fridge for up to 3 months. Use in the shower and scrub from head to toe before washing it off to reveal gorgeous glowy skin.

Whipped Grapefruit Mint Sugar Scrub

What you’ll need
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 1.2 cup sugar
  • Grapefruit zest (one whole grapefruit)
  • 1 tbsp grapefruit juice
  • 10 drops peppermint essential oil
  • 25 drops grapefruit essential oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon beetroot juice for colour (optional)


  • Put solid block of coconut oil into a mixer with sugar and blend until it becomes a thick paste
  • Add grapefruit zest, grapefruit juice, peppermint and grapefruit oil. Mix for about 20 seconds (it should be thick and fluffy)
  • Store in an airtight jar in the fridge

Coffee Body Scrub

What you’ll need:

  • 1 cup ground coffee
  • 1 cup organic sugar (or salt)
  • 1/2 cup organic coconut oil
  • 1/2 tbsp cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract (optional)


  • Melt coconut oil and allow it to cool but not solidify
  • Mix all ingredients together and store in an airtight container or mason jar
  • Use 1-2 times a week (or every day if you like).

Chai masala body scrub


What you’ll need

  • 1/4 cup black tea
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract


  •  Using a mortar and pestle (or place them in a freezer bag and crush with a rolling pin) grind the tea leaves to a powder
  • Combine all ingredients (except oil) in a medium bowl
  • Add the oil and mix until you reach desired consistency
  • Store in a jar or airtight container

Mango Body Scrub

What you’ll need

  • 1/2 cup raw sugar
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup chopped raw mango
  • 3-4 drops of orange essential oil (optional)


  • Mix sugar and coconut oil together (you might want to melt the coconut oil first)
  • Add mango and essential oil (if using)
  • Combine everything until it’s nice and thick
  • Store in a jar or airtight container and apply in the shower

Gingerbread Sugar Scrub

What you’ll need

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil (or olive oil)
  • 1/4 cup almond oil
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp all spice
  • 1/2 tsp ginger
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg


  • Combine everything except the oil in a medium bowl
  • Add both oils gradually, stirring as you go, until you reach your desired consistency
  • Pop the scrub into a sterilisted mason jar and seal tightly

Peachy Keen Sugar Scrub

What you’ll need

  • 1.5 cups sugar
  • 1/2-3/4 cup coconut oil
  • 4-5 Peach flavoured teabags
  • Essential oils (optional)
  • Food dye (optional)


  • Tear open the teabags and pour leaves into a bowl
  • Add sugar and mix together
  • Slowly add coconut oil and stir until you’ve reached your desired consistency
  • Put in a jar or airtight container

Cranberry Sugar Scrub

What you’ll need

  • 1 cup frozen or fresh cranberries
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 12 drop essential orange oil or fragrance
  • Airtight container or jar


  • Puree cranberries in a blender
  • Add coconut oil and sugar then blend all ingredients together
  • Add 12 drops of orange essential oil or similar fragrance
  • Store mixture in refrigerator in an airtight container
